Collecting Glassware

For the past few years I have had a new obsession. Now many people collect certain items but the one that I have found the most interesting to collect is glassware. There are literally thousands of different pieces that I want to add to my collection, so my goal in the next year is to start being able to purchase at least a new item each month.

Now a lot of you might not be familiar with this type of collecting. It is different than say stamp collecting, or jewelry collecting because I feel that with each new piece I am able to tell a story.

My interest in glassware all started a few years ago when I visited my relatives in Germany. They took me out to an old German brewery in Hamburg and I was impressed with the display that they had there. As soon as I left I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be cool if I could own some of these items?”. With that thought in mind the next day I went back to the brewery and purchased a new beer mug.

Ever since that first purchase I have been trying to find different places where they have unique products. I have found through my searches that it is good to search online for glassware because you can travel a long distance by only a couple clicks of the mouse. Traveling to other countries is great but it can also become expensive.

To get my collection to the next level I plan on going to South America over the summer and checking out the types of glassware that they have. Hopefully I will find something unique and can share it with my friends and fellow collectors. As far as price is concerned regarding these items, I think that you should always try to talk to the person selling the piece and try to get it for a little cheaper than they are selling it. It is common for them to increase the prices because they know people are willing to buy.
