Interesting Facts Of Glassware

One type of glassware that is becoming more popular because of the worlds fascination with drinking and love of beer are beer glasses. Ever since watching the movie “Beerfest” Americans have been investing more and more time in creating and purchasing different types of beer glasses. There are also people that use these as collectible items.

There are different types of drinking glasses that are supposed to be used with different types of beer. I did not know this before coming to College, but quickly the party atmosphere as actually taught me a lot about the subject. The reason for this is that different drinking glasses are created to do certain things such as highlight the color of the beer, or keep your beer warm, and even allow you to drink the beverage faster.

One example of this type of glassware is called a wheat beer glass. These glasses are originally used to drink German beers and are narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. The reason for this is because generally wheat beer is bubbly and the wider head gives room for the bubbles so that it looks attractive and does not spill anywhere. The type of glass used to serve light beers is called a Pilsener glass, and are usually taller and more slender than the wheat beer glass.

During the Black Plague the Germans designed another type of beer mug with a lid called a beer stein. The reason that they incorporated a lid was so that no bacteria would get into the beer when people drank out of it. I find this interesting that they were so concerned with their beer! A pint glass is a glass designed to hold approximately 1.3pints of beer, and can be seen in various bars around the world.

A tulip glass is used for beer where the head is larger than others meaning that the carbonation is not only at the top but throughout the glass. Visually this looks nice, but in my opinion I do not prefer using this type of glass when consuming this beverage. All of these types of beer glasses are only a small portion of glassware available on the market.
